چکیده

The objective of this research is to develop an efficient multilayer general area router as an alternative to the three-dimensional (30) maze router for solving the multilayer MCM routing problem. Our router, named SLICE, is independent of net ordering, requires much shorter computation time, and uses fewer vias. A key step in our router is to compute a maximum non-crossing bipartite matching, which is solved optimally in 0 (nlogn) time where n is the number of possible connections. We tested our router on a number of examples, including two MCM designs from MCC. The total wirelength used by SLICE is only a few percent away from the optimal. Compared with a 3 0 maze router, SLICE is four times faster and uses 28% fewer vias. A more important feature is that SLICE works on only a "thin slice" of the two-layer routing grids at a time, while a 3 0 maze router works on the entire three dimensional routing grid. Therefore, SLICE can successfully produce solutions for large MCM routing examples where 30 maze routers fail due to insyffrcient memory.

A Fast Four-Via Multilayer MCM Router

In this paper, we present an efficient multilayer general area router, named V4, for MCM and dense PCB designs. The unique feature of the V4 router is that it uses no more than four vias to route every net and yet produces high quality routing solutions. A number of combinatorial optimization techniques are used in the V4 router to produce high quality routing solutions in polynomial time. As a...

TROUTE: A Reconfigurability-Aware FPGA Router

Since FPGAs are inherently reconfigurable, making FPGA designs generic does not reduce chip cost, as is the case for ASICs. However, designing and mapping lots of specialized FPGA designs introduces an extra EDA cost. We describe a two staged fully automatic FPGA tool flow that efficiently maps a generic HDL design to multiple specialized FPGA configurations. The mapping is fast enough to be ex...

A Stream-based Reconfigurable Router Prototype

Flexible and fast routers are generally considered a contradiction in terms since maintaining high-throughput requires fast but fixed-configuration application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) while flexibility requires slower but flexible configuration of general-purpose processors. A configurable stream-based reconfigurable router is a fast, flexible solution that includes the best featur...
